About Thailand - Overview
Thailand is one of Asia's most popular holiday destinations and offers something for every tourist, ranging from sun-kissed beaches and tropical islands in the south to dense jungles, majestic mountain ranges and quiet villages in the north.
Referred to as "the Land of Smiles" Thailand is captivating, be it your first or fifty first visit. Tourists are greeted with that distinctive Thai smile that is both genuine and sincere. It's natural to smile back in return.

With the recent opening of the new Suvarnabhumi (pronounced su-wana-poom) airport, Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is now the international flight hub of South East Asia, served by 60 international airlines. Bangkok’s old airport, Don Muang, will continue to serve various budget airlines, together with the domestic flights of Thai Airways International,

Bangkok, has numerous attractions on offer to the tourist, and is the shopping centre of Asia combining superb malls with open-air markets containing fabulous Thai silks and gems, and a variety of entertainment. Bangkok has over 400 Buddhist temples of great splendour and fascination, an extensive selection of Thai and international restaurants, and traditional Thai ways of life, especially along the Chao Phraya River. It is worth taking a boat-trip along the river before exploring further into different canals to gain a glimpse of old Bangkok.
The remarkable conservation of the culture and artistic heritage is the true fascination of Bangkok

The choice of hotel accommodation in Bangkok ranges from the basic to the luxurious, with service and room rates that are hard to beat. Budget hotels are clean and come with the basic facilities. Luxury hotels come complete with world-class standards and ambience. Whatever your choice, hotel service is always impeccable and ‘service with a smile’

Central Thailand (Bangkok) experiences an annual hot tropical climate with average daytime temperatures reaching 35*C. November to February is the most popular with tourists. The hottest months are April & May and the monsoon season is from June to October.

To the north of Bangkok lies the Northern Capital of Thailand – Chiang Mai. With a stunning mountain backdrop, Chiang Mai is one of the rare places in Thailand where it is possible to find ancient temples next to boutique hotels and modern convenience stores. It is a place where both luxury tourists and backpackers can enjoy themselves.
For the explorers, jungle tours, elephant riding and hill tribe village excursions can all be found, together with local handicrafts made of Thai silk, wood or silver.
Chiang Mai international Airport has at least 20 flight connections a day to and from Bangkok, on a variety of airlines, with a flight time of 1 hour 10 minutes.
Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai) experiences three distinctive seasons per year. March until June are the hottest, with temperatures between 16 - 38 *C, June until November is rainy season & best for rafting and river activities with temperatures between 22 – 34 *C, and November to March is cool with temperatures between 11 – 36 *C.

South of Bangkok the vast majority of tourists visit Phuket (pronounced poo-get). Located in the Andaman Sea, Phuket is Thailand’s largest, wealthiest island, has a moist tropical climate, and offers the tourist outstanding resorts at all star levels, world-class diving & yachting and game fishing. The southern coastline has superb mountains and tropical forests that meet the crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches.
Flight time from Bangkok is just over an hour, and Phuket International Airport has flight connections with Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and the UK.

South of Phuket, in the Andaman Sea is the Phi Phi Islands, and these are some of the best in South East Asia. The larger island, Phi Phi Don, attracts the majority of tourists. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, abundant coral and marine life Phi Phi Don is an excellent destination for snorkelling and Scuba Diving or any boating activity.
Hotel accommodation ranges from 2 to 5 star and some resorts are located on their own private beach. Most of the accommodation is in the form of bungalows or Thai style villas. Transfer time, by boat, from Phuket, takes about 45 minutes.

The most comfortable climate, and possible the best time to visit southern Thailand, (Koh Samui, Phuket & Phi Phi) is between November and March. The cool sea breezes maintain an average temperature of around 24*C to 32*C. September – October are the wettest months but the province remains warm all year. April and May are the hottest, with temperatures ranging from 27*C to 36*C.

Due to the Thai baht favourable rate of exchange against UK sterling and the US dollar, shopping, eating out, travelling and world-class accommodation is extremely good value for money.
To take advantage of cheap flights, discounted hotel rooms and avoid other tourists, April, May, June, September and October are the low-season tourism periods. Peak season months are August, November, December, February and March.

The most difficult decision for any tourist is deciding how much longer you can manage to stay in Thailand or how soon will you be able to return.
